The second of the two-weekend music festival, Coachella, took place this past weekend from April 21st to the 23rd. As mentioned in the last installment of the Coachella 2023 Recap, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, annually held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, brings in a multitude of artists, in varying genres and career stages, to perform continuously across several stages on the grounds of the festival, over the course of two consecutive weekends. This year, Coachella brought in a highly anticipated list of headliners and performers, including Bad Bunny, BLACKPINK, and Blink-182, amongst a multitude of others.
Bad Bunny returned to headline day one of the second weekend after his first historic set as the first ever solo Latino artist to headline the festival. His second set pulled heavily from his albums Un Verano Sin Ti and YHLQMDLG, and also included multiple collaborations with a handful of surprise guest artists. He performed “Yonaguni” with José Feliciano, “La Jumpa” with Arcángel, “Dákiti” with Jhayco, and “Safaera” with Jowell y Randy. He also brought Grupo Frontera performed three songs on stage with Bad Bunny, including the live debut of their new single, “Un X100to.”
BLACKPINK returned to headline day two of the second weekend after their first historic set as the first ever K-Pop group to headline the festival. As mentioned last time, the members of the group, Jisoo, Rosé, Jennie, and Lisa, joined the ranks of the few female headliners in the festival’s history, including Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, and Billie Eilish. In 2019, BLACKPINK also made history as being the first K-Pop group to perform at Coachella at all, ever. In another upbeat and heavily choreographed set, the girl group performed more of their hits, including “Pink Venom,” “Boombayah,” and “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du,” amongst others.
Finally, Blink-182 came in to headline the final night of the second weekend, after Frank Ocean dropped out, citing an injury. Following their first reunion set during the first weekend, the pop-punk trio got bumped up to the headlining slot after Frank Ocean’s departure. The bandmates, guitarist Tom DeLonge, bassist Mark Hoppus, and drummer Travis Barker, played both their iconic hits, such as “Family Reunion,” “Anthem Pt.2,” “The Rock Show,” and “What’s My Age Again?”, as well as more recent tracks, such as their 2022 single, “Edging.” Afterwards, Four Tet, Skrillex, and Fred Again.. took the stage to close out the festival with an exciting electronic set.
