On August 14, Drake dropped his latest single, “Laugh Now, Cry Later” featuring Lil Durk. This is our first taste of Drake’s sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy. Drake has not confirmed a release date, but we’re expecting a drop any day now!
Back in May of this year, the Canadian rapper released his fifth solo mixtape Dark Lane Demo Tapes consisting of previously existing and leaked material, as a precursor to the upcoming album.
In regards to the album title, Drake has dealt with some obstacles. He has been working on trademarking the title, Certified Lover Boy, for months on end, but was unsuccessful due to a Canadian band called Loverboy, as well as a Michigan lingerie company that has already obtained similar trademarks.
It’s been two years since Drake’s last studio album, Scorpion. Earlier in the year, Drake announced that this new album would be shorter than his last, with a tracklist of 10 to 16 songs.
There is currently very little information available about Certified Lover Boy other than that it will be released through OVO Sound and Frozen Moments. “Laugh Now, Cry Later” seems to be the only single from the album. Lil Durk is featured on the single, but aside from him, there are no other rumored artist features on the album.
Drake has hinted through his social media that the album will be dropping sooner rather than later. The Mezz Team will be keeping our eyes peeled in preparation for Certified Lover Boy!
