SHE IS COMING: Track By Track

Miley Cyrus’ first EP of her career, SHE IS COMING, was recently released at the end of May. On this EP, Cyrus includes six tracks and four features. The sound of this new EP doesn’t stray far from her more recent albums, but it seems like a toned down version of them. As Cyrus gets older and grows as an artist she is maturing and becoming more her honest and fun self.

Mother’s Daughter
When I first listened, I couldn’t gather into words how I wanted to describe this track, there was something about it that gave it a specific tone. There was a vibe to the track that I struggled to describe. This track is pop turned evil, especially listening to the first 30 seconds of the track. This is one of the more serious tracks off the EP that tells the listener that Cyrus is not playing around anymore.

Unholy
This track is brutally honest about Cyrus’ drug and alcohol use. On this track she confronts bias’ towards her along with any fears she has while being in the public eye. She repeats the lines, “I’m a little drunk, I know it… I’ma get high as hell… I’m a little bit unholy… So what, so is everyone else” multiple times throughout the track with each repeat dimmer than the previous. To me, she is asking if everyone else is like this than why is she the one being punished, in a way, for it?

D.R.E.A.M.
This is the first track off the EP to include a feature, this one being Ghostface Killah. Slowing it down, she discusses her relationship with drugs and love. The track is clearly inspired by Wu Tang Clan titled C.R.E.A.M. Cyrus’ title is a simply a facade for what the acronym stands for, drugs rule everything around me.

Cattitude
This track immediately takes me back to the mood that we were given with her Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz album. Cattitude features none other than RuPaul and is a dedication to women and their bodies in an upbeat, sexual party song.

Party Up the Street
This track is my personal favorite off the EP. The intro verse done by Swae Lee gives the song a soft tone that meets every mood. It’s not overwhelmingly sad or the other way around and isn’t too happy. Mike WiLL Made-It is also featured on this track and responsible for the production of it.

The Most
This is a happy and uplifting track about being insecure and having doubts in a relationship. Cyrus delivers longer and higher notes making the lines more dramatic and creating an emotional tone when the note follows with a raspy one.

She has come full circle with the topics touched in the EP. She goes through a journey of self discovery and being raw and exposed, confronting her doubts and insecurities. By the end she is coming face to face with her bigger fears.

Well done Miley!
